MASH Cares – Thanksgiving Edition

Tis the season to give back & this is exactly what the MASH community is doing!

Over the past few months, MASH was able to collaborate with several UAlbany organizations to raise money for local charities. Students who came together to support the cause were rewarded with a food donation from Chipotle Mexcian Grill in Stuyvesant Plaza in Albany, N.Y.

"Getting all my friends involved in giving back to the community was amazing, and to be able to enjoy some Chipotle together was a great bonding experience. All that would not be possible if it wasn't for MASH". Said Brandy Aly, a freshman at the University at Albany.

With over $1000 raised, it was time to do some good! A few days before Thanksgiving the MASH team, joined by a few of the donors and members, purchased food for The Third Reform Church, located in downtown Albany. The food helped the church with its community dinner, while part of it also went to create holiday baskets for those in need.

But the giving back was not done, and Capital City Rescue Mission was the next stop for the crew. Representatives of Kappa Alpha Pi, a Pre-Law Co-Ed Fraternity, which was one of the organizations that donated, joined MASH and delivered a check to Perry Jones, Rescue Mission's Executive Director.

Michaela Pickett, an Albany local who is a Senior at UAlbany and also the president of the organization, was honored to be able to personally donate the money. "Kappa Alpha Pi is dedicated not only to improving our campus but also helping the community that houses us. We were beyond thrilled when MASH reached out to us with the opportunity to give back the local charities this Thanksgiving. We look forward to working more with MASH in the future in our endeavor to better give back to Albany”.

MASH already has its eyes on Christmas, and hopes to add new charities to its growing community! Many students have reached out wishing to collaborate and help raise the money and donations needed.
